The tourism water and energy consumption, and carbon dioxide emission from the use of Electricity and Petroleum and other fuel products remained low relative to its pre-pandemic levels. That is, albeit the gradual recovery of tourism in 2021.

Tourism water consumption reached 132.54 million cubic meters (m³) in 2021. It was 19.0 percent higher than the 111.38 million m³ recorded in the previous year. Accommodation services for visitors accounted for the highest water consumption among the tourism industries with 105.54 million m³ or 79.6 percent share to total tourism water consumption. (Tables 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3)

Meanwhile, the energy consumption of tourism from the use of Electricity and Petroleum and other fuel products was 3,041.99 Kilotonnes of Oil Equivalent (KTOE) in 2021, a decline of -4.7 percent from 3,192.29 KTOE recorded in 2020. Accommodation services for visitors also posted the highest energy consumption among tourism industries in 2021 with 1,356.21 KTOE. This accounted for 44.6 percent of the total energy consumption of tourism from the use of Electricity and Petroleum and other fuel products. (Tables 3.10, 3.11, and 3.12)

Carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions resulting from the use of Electricity and Petroleum and other fuel products by the tourism sector was equal to 3,888.18 Gigagrams (Gg) in 2021, lower by -10.9 percent from the 4,366.09 Gg recorded in the previous year. Transportation services accounted for 2,236.91 Gg or 57.5 percent of the total CO₂ emission of tourism resulting from the use of Electricity and Petroleum and other fuel products. (Tables 3.19, 3.20, and 3.21)
